On December 9, 2021, sales under the FAME initiative in Telangana state were lowest compared to other states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Karnataka leads all states with sales of 33,483 electric vehicles, followed by Tamil Nadu with 24,638 electric vehicles and Maharashtra with 20,955 electric vehicles. A total of 1.78 lakh EVs have been sold across the country after the FAME initiative, Heavy Industries Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on 28 November.

In a separate response, the minister said that the sale of electric vehicles in the last two years has affected the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Meanwhile, the number of EV charging stations installed by FAME in Telangana state is the second highest in the country. Telangana has 56 EV charging stations behind Delhi and 94 EV charging stations. As part of the FAME project, 452 charging stations for electric cars have been installed in India.

FAME scheme :-

In March 2015, the federal government of India announced the FAME-I India plan to promote the use of electric vehicles. Based on the results and experience gained during Phase I and in consultation with all stakeholders, the Union Government of India is Phase II of FAME India; to be effective for five years, the scheme came into effect on 1 April 2019 with a total budget contribution of Rs 10,000 crore.

Charging an electric vehicle in Hyderabad will cost Rs.12 per kWh

As the Telangana state government speeds up the process of setting up public charging stations, electric vehicle (EV) owners will soon be able to charge their cars at Rs.12.06 kilowatt hour (kWh) as service charge.

The Heavy Industries Department designed this strategy to encourage the use of electric vehicles by providing charging stations. Apart from Hyderabad, 20 more public charging stations will be built in Warangal and Karimnagar, taking the total number of public charging stations to 138. Hyderabad city already has several private charging stations. Officials said everything was ready in March.
