Can Electric Vehicles (EV) change India's Future????

India, having the second largest population in the world, has become the fifth largest market of cars. By considering the positive growth of travelling, transportation and migration, we know that the resources of fossil fuel will go to end in near future. That's why, there is no chance that prices of Petrol, Dassel and CNG gas will be affordable to each one of us. And this will lead to increase the importance of Electric Vehicles(EVs).

In today's scenario, every economy wants to adopt electric automobile industry. Various governments appeal to the citizens for shifting to Electric Vehicles. Our Modi government has also set a determination to be 100% electric till 2030.

Need of EVs in India

India has 6 cities which comes under the 10 most polluted cities in the world. Burning of fuels is one of the most effective reason for pollution in India. Most of the travel and transport is done by Two wheelers, Four wheelers and Railways, which run on fuel itself.

India imports 86% of crude oil from other countries and only remaining 14% crude oil is its own. We know that, for importing anything from International market, The country needs foreign/international currency. So, it leads to decrease in the Indian Forex Reserve.

Pollution leads to increase in the Global Warming. And considering all these things, it is need for India to use vehicles which will run only on electricity.

Advantages of EV

  • In India, Government is charging only 5% GST on EVs, That's why EVs are available at affordable price.
  • It does not need to spend much more money on repairing of EVs, they are designed in such manner that repairing cost will reduce automatically.
  • Run on electricity, so there is no need to spend money on gas refilling, oil filling or oil change.
  • Need low maintenance cost and this thing make them very attractive.
  • Make our environment emission free and pollution free.
  • Can be charged at home easily, no necessity to go to petrol pumps or charging stations.
  • In Petrol/Diesel vehicles, 1 vehicle out of 2 crores can be blast. Where as in E-vehicles, 1 out of 12 crores can be blast.
  • Do not make noise as compared to old vehicles and has better turning radius.

Why people should go for E-Vehicles?

Purchase Cost :-

Purchase cost means cost of the product or cost of vehicle. When e-vehicles were introduced in India at that time those were very expensive for middle class people to buy. But now, government is also in favor of E-vehicles and GST on E-vehicles has been reduced from 18% to 5%. That's why, nowadays E-vehicles are available in the market with affordable prices.

Maintenance Cost :-

Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles provide around 50% saving in maintenance and repair over its life which has been pegged at 3.20 lakh kilometers. So, low maintenance cost is one of the best thing in E-vehicles.

Service Cost :-

Research shows that an E-vehicle costs 30% less to service and maintain than a traditional car (depending on the car, of course). We can compare both the vehicles with the help of service cost and come to the right decision.

Fuel Cost :-

Actually, E-vehicles don't need fuel, they run only on electricity. E-vehicles require cost of Rs.1 per kilometer, where as traditional vehicles require cost of Rs.6 to 7 per kilometer.

Favorable Government Policies

NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog proposed two-wheelers sold after 2025 must be electric vehicles only. The current Minister for Road Transport & Highways in the Government of India, Nitin Gadkari also said that the Aayog also proposed three-wheelers sold after 2023 should be electric vehicles only.

Government is appealing that in the upcoming high rise buildings, hospitals, malls, residential areas, commercial buildings and offices, there should be charging centers for E-vehicles. It is compulsion in the top 10 Indian polluted cities that there must be 10 to 20% sale of E-vehicles only.

When we use old traditional vehicles, we have to utilize imported oil to run them. It leads to fiscal deficit, decrease in value of Indian rupee, stop improvement of nation's economy, increase in dollar's value, etc. By adopting E-vehicles across the country, we can save up to 330 Billion Dollar which we have to spend on import of crude oil.

Discussing all the points mentioned above, it is seen that adoption of E-vehicles will be better for country's economy, people's health, help in making pollution free country. "Improvement in existing innovation can kill the existing innovation and create more innovative things", exactly like this, in future, when E-vehicles will everywhere in the country, the future will be amazing.
